Dentistry – Large Animal

Dental care is a very important consideration when purchasing a horse. Horses have teeth that are different from humans’ teeth; they continue to grow throughout their entire lives. Because their teeth are always growing horses need to have their dentistry’s or “teeth floated” every couple of years. This is done to remove any sharp points that may cause cuts and ulcers inside the mouth. Dentistry’s also allow the veterinarian to do a thorough exam of the mouth to determine if any teeth are broken, loose, or misshapen. When issues with teeth are identified preventative dental work can often ensure that the horse does not experience any pain or further health effects.

At Cornwallis Veterinarians we have a power float to quickly file off the sharp hooks and points in the mouth of our patients so they are back to feeling their best in no time!
