We provide lameness evaluation to determine the source of your pet’s problem. Some lameness’s are soft tissue in nature (muscular or ligamentous) and some result from orthopedic injuries which may require surgical intervention.
Rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament is the most common cause of hind limb lameness in the dog. After diagnosis, in most cases, these injuries are repaired surgically. We perform cruciate repair surgery here for most patients. Some larger patients are referred elsewhere for surgery; this is a decision which is made in concert with you during your consultation. As well, we also provide in clinic surgical repair of patella (kneecap) luxations.
We perform many types of orthopedic repair for leg fractures. The location of fracture will determine treatment which ranges from splints and cases to surgical repair using pins and wires. Fractures of the pelvis or back require referral to another facility as specialized equipment is required for treatment of these injuries.
