Ticks

Ticks are very common every year in our areas of Kings and Hants Counties,

Nova Scotia.  Ticks are predominantly found in low brush and long grass,

preferring the spring and fall when the weather is more moist and cool.

The Deer Tick or Black Legged Tick is the tick most likely to carry Lyme Disease.  Lyme Disease is caused by a bacterium Borelia burgdorferi and is circulated in the deer and rodent populations.  Occasionally Lyme Disease is spread through a tick bite to dogs, cattle, horses and humans.  Lyme Disease can cause arthritis, pain, fever and neurological disturbances. Please speak to one of our trained personnel regarding tick control medications, methods to remove a tick from your pet and information on the Lyme Disease vaccination for your dog.
